Sprocket
Chain sprockets are purchased ready-made and only their hubs are machined to fit the shaft and used. However, in special cases it may be necessary to manufacture or have chain sprockets manufactured.
Since chain sprockets do not generally operate at high speeds, they do not need to be manufactured with great precision.
In chain sprockets, the part where the pulley sits is flattened so that the pulley can sit comfortably. The upper tooth area above the graduation circle is not very functional in chain sprockets .
For this reason, it cannot be kept for too long.
The tooth is beveled on both sides to accommodate the chain .
Sprockets are often not hardened.
Thus, they wear the chain less.
Chains cannot transmit movement at a constant speed due to their pitched structure.
An important detail about chain sprockets is that they cannot transmit movement uniformly.
Due to its pitch structure, the sprocket transmits the uniform movement it receives from the shaft as vibrations of a certain average movement.
For a smooth movement, it should not be below 17 teeth.
However, this fluctuation in motion is negligible for many (slow) applications and the designer will choose small sprocket numbers to keep sprocket sizes small.
But in many applications, wear is the main factor that determines chain life.
They are significantly affected by these movements.
For this reason, the designer must choose between a gear with a small pitch and a large number of teeth and a gear with a small number of teeth .
It may be preferable to choose a gear with an odd number of teeth .
In this way, the ends of the chain entering and exiting the sprocket will move with a phase difference and operate more quietly. However, in practice it was observed that the difference was not significant.
