In general terms, the duty of the connecting elements is to provide communication between the power source, the motor or the rotating element, and the rotated element and thus transmit the movement. Couplings and clutches are used in practice as mechanical connection elements.
In couplings, the connection is made by mechanical bonding. Therefore, establishing or breaking the connection between two shafts is done by installing and removing the mechanical fastener; This is only possible when the rotating shaft is stationary. In clutches, the connection is based on a mechanical or physical phenomenon (usually friction); While the rotating shaft is rotating, contact can be maintained or interrupted at any time. Couplings are also called non-dissolvable couplings and couplings are also called resolvable couplings.
